Trump. Now What?

I closed my eyes well after Midnight, hopeful that when my alarm went off at 6:00 am that the election results would somehow be different. That the numbers would have changed and that the person that so many of us deemed the best choice, would be President.

As I read through my FB newsfeed, I struggled for almost an hour to find the right words to post on my timeline. There was one part of me that was ready to post about Pookie n dem putting a cap in Trump’s…well.

The saved part of me; chile, I had to dig deep. I had to sit back and remind myself about who I am.

I wrestled all day with what transpired; my emotions were all over the place and I had so many questions. An email popped up on my phone from my sister who called a family meeting. She asked my Dad to share a word of encouragement…’cause, ya know, he’s Daddy. He’s the calm in the eye of the storm and he’s like, reallllly saved.

The following is Daddy’s reply (and then he sent a separate email telling me I needed to get saved after my comment about Pookie n dem):

“It may look like hell is taking charge, but yes, we must remember that God is in control. He decides our destiny. So, it’s time to pray and stay focused. Some things God allows to happen in order to get our attention and move us back to praying. I’m encouraged. Everything is moving as it should!”

Wow. This.

The words, “stay focused” resonated in me. I’m not naive, I know what Trump and the government is capable of, but now, more than ever is the time to get my house in order. This means that I need to work on having at least 3 streams of income and I must continue to move ahead in working for myself so that if an economic crisis hits, I am prepared.

I know that people of color will experience things that our generation never thought that we would have to experience, but this does not mean that we need to live in fear. There is a shift taking place and we must come together and prepare as a people. I don’t mean through fighting and rioting; it’s time for us to rebuild our communities so that we can sustain the winds of change.

Let us not get so emotional that we miss this opportunity to get things in order.

Pray. Prepare. Focus.

Does God have your attention yet?

From my heart to yours,
